This script simply list all the files matching a pattern, like ".htm\[l\]\?". To make it more complicated, it supports the choice of starting the listing from a sub-directory and you can use it with sites that has multiple servers with different directory roots but the same cgi-bin directory. You may also run this program from the command line to create the HTML page off-line.
